Today is the second Sunday of Advent – the season in the lead up to Christmas, when we prepare for the coming of Jesus. In our services, we light a candle each week to remind us that Jesus brings light into the world.
If you took up the suggestion last week of creating your own Advent wreath, this week, light the candle of PEACE. Jesus is the Prince of Peace. Through him we can experience God’s peace. We can also look forward to the time when Jesus will come again and the world will be at peace – an end to pandemics and wars, when harmony and justice will be restored.
Activities, if needed, to keep hands busy while listening to today’s talk:
Event – Church Picnic!
Sunday 5 December, from 11:30am onwards.
A chance to reconnect with each other over lunch. ALL WELCOME!
Anthony Beale Reserve Playground, 277 St Helena Rd.
BYO picnic (there are also BBQ facilities available).
As well as a playground and oval, there is a half basketball court and junior skate ramp, so bring bats, balls, skateboards, scooters, etc.
Event – Grade 6 & Year 7 Dinner, followed by Youth Games Night!
Friday 10 December
6:00-7:00pm dinner for Grade 6 & Year 7 only.
This is an opportunity for Grade 6s to meet some of the youth leaders, make some new friends, and chat about Life Groups and events open to them next year. I’ll be there too, as a familiar face.
7:00-9:30pm Years 8-12 youth will join them for an evening of classic youth games involving strategy, teamwork, torch-lit madness, and lots of fun!
Location: Youth Minister Andi’s place in Kangaroo Ground! (RSVP to receive address!)
Cost: $10 for Grade 6 & Year 7s incl. dinner, $5 for other youth
BYO: Torch!
ADVENT Family Discipleship
Last week’s blog post included lots of suggestions of Family Advent Devotionals and activities you can use over the next few weeks to help make Jesus the focus of your household in the lead up to Christmas.
Another suggestion for those of you with young children, who have the Jesus Storybook Bible, is the JSB Advent Guide which has a reading plan for December, printable ornaments, and colouring pages.
Have a great week,
Kylie – Children & Families’ Minister
St John’s is committed to Child Safety and welcomes your feedback on how we can keep improving.
