John grew up in Melbourne before spending time in Brisbane and later the south coast of New South Wales in Batemans Bay, eventually returning home to Melbourne. He is married to Susan, and together they have two children, Mia and Noah. John completed a Master of Theology (MTh), Bachelor of Theology (BTh), and Advanced Diploma of Ministry (AdvDipMin) through Ridley College. Before entering ministry, he worked in the hospitality industry — something that still shapes his love of welcoming people, building community, and sharing life around a table.
John often jokes that he never imagined he would one day become an Anglican priest, having spent his formative Christian experience attending a Pentecostal church. Along the way, God continued to deepen his love for Scripture, the church, and the rich story of the gospel. He loves helping people see how the Scriptures speak into everyday life and point us to Christ — the one who identified with us so that we might find our new selves in Him.
In addition, John enjoys playing bass guitar, nature photography, history, podcasts, and a good game of chess — there’s always a chess board ready in his office. He also loves walking through the beautiful surrounds of Diamond Creek and is always happy for others to join him for a walk and chat. At home, the family’s pets — cats Reggie and Stephanie, and dog Sadie — are very much part of the household.
