Jesus is like a lighthouse, providing light to guide us through our lives. So, we have a new kids’ song for you this week, My Lighthouse.
And we start a new 3-week talk series today, looking at generosity. Families, what does being generous mean to you? Do you like to share, give things away, do things for other people? Make a list of ways you could be generous – think about your money and belongings, your time and energy.

Where possible, I choose activity sheets that use language that is accessible to kids. However, a translation that uses archaic language provides you an opportunity as parents to teach your kids to look up different bible translations when you come across difficult words or sentences, rather than ignore or skip over the verses.
e.g. The first verse of this week’s reading appears on one of these sheets as …
Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia.
Huh? Yeah, me neither. But, by looking up another translation together, you are teaching your kids a valuable skill, and gain understanding of the passage …
Brothers and sisters, we want you to know about the grace that God has given to the churches in Macedonia.
Which leads us to a common question; Which translation is best for kids? There are pros and cons with all translations, whether it be for adults or kids.
In our church services, we usually use the New International Version (NIV) because it does a very good job of staying close to the original text while using modern language. For kids, The New International Readers Version (NIRV) stays very close to the text of the NIV but uses slightly more accessible language and sentence structure for younger readers.
Other good translations that are often used for kids include the Contemporary English Version (CEV), International Children’s Bible (ICB), and the Good News (GNB/GNT).
For those of us without a library of translations on the shelf … BibleGateway.com is a user-friendly site with more versions than you will ever use, and you can compare translations side-by-side.
Today’s St John’s Kids Zoom Sessions:
Apologies to those who encountered difficulties accessing the Grade 1 session last week. We had some tech issues getting the meeting started. If you encounter problems in the future, check the Parents’ Facebook group. If we need to publish new meeting details, that’s where they will be. Also, please use this group to post a question, or to share ideas and encourage each other.
New Time: As some families have children in consecutive meetings, we are going to start the second session at 4:40pm, to allow a buffer between meetings for families to finish up in one, before joining the other. The session will still run for 30 minutes, finishing at approx. 5:10pm.

Upcoming Event:
Sunday 15 November is our annual Thanksgiving Sunday. We want to celebrate God and give him thanks for who he is and all that he has done for us over the past year.
