Missions Blog || The Beers’ final months in the NT

Tavis, Kate, Beka and Fin Beer have been a St John’s link missionary family since leaving for the NT over ten years ago. Over this time, through CMS, God has raised and developed Aboriginal church leaders, made inroads into mentoring Aboriginal leaders through the Yarning Map, brought reconciliation through trauma and healing workshops and produced the Kriol Prayer Book, to name a few things. We celebrate with the Beers and share a few exerts from their last newsletter.

The Aboriginal Church Leaders Conference last month was a huge success where leaders from nine churches gathered in safety for training and sharing before the NT Synod. Pray for the Holy Spirit to mightily work in the lives of those who came, and those they serve back in their communities.

The Kriol Preya Buk was officially launched during the opening night of NT Synod, on the 17th September. Many of the translators were able to make the service and were proud of the shared achievement. Pray for the widespread reach of this book.

For those interested, Eternity wrote a story on the launch here. You can even purchase the book from places such as Amazon.

Ordinations of Darryn and Edwin (16 & 18 Oct)

We are currently preparing for two ordinations; Darryn Farrell, as priest at Minyerri, and Edwin Rami as deacon at Numbulwar. They are leaders that we have helped to equip for leadership over the past 9 years. Pray for growth in godly character that God will use them both mightily for his glory in the years to come.

Trauma Healing Workshop:

Praise God for the recent opportunity Kate had to train 9 people as new facilitators in this program, providing an invaluable opportunity to pass on her learned experience in how to contextualise the course for the NT. Please pray for these 9 people as they start to use the material in their ministries with hurting people.

Family:

Thank God for sustaining our health as a family. Please pray for Fin as he completes his last two exams, and Beka as she ends her first year of uni in Melbourne. Please pray for us as we enter the last couple of months before we leave the Northern Territory. There is still a huge amount of work left in finishing our roles and in organising for our return to Melbourne – so prayers for us during this time is appreciated.

Yours in Christ’s Service,
Tavis & Kate
