Today is our annual Thanksgiving Day. We are celebrating the 153rd anniversary of St John’s Diamond Creek and all that God has done for us in the past year.
Although it is wonderful to set aside a particular day to honour God as a church group, thanksgiving is not something we should save only for special occasions. God wants us to be a people of gratitude every day of the year! Throughout the bible we are reminded of God’s provisions and encouraged to rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
This is often easier said than done, and COVID has added a unique set of difficulties on top of the usual ups and downs of life, but gratitude is an intentional spiritual practice of seeing and celebrating the good in the world around us and brings us closer to God who is the source of all goodness.
Get ready to make a joyful noise, rejoice and praise God with our kids’ song, The God of Wow! Encourage your kids to keep singing and celebrating God during the week with this Spotify Playlist.
We will be sharing Communion in the service today, so have some bread and wine/juice ready if you would like to join in.
Kids, what are you most thankful for today? What are you most thankful for this year? As well as the big things, look around the room you are sitting in, or out the window, and try and make a list of as many little things as you can that you are thankful for. Give God thanks for all the good things he has put in your life.

Ongoing activity:
Start a Gratitude Wall in your home. You could use a chalkboard, whiteboard, or post-it notes on a wall. Each day take time together to reflect on what you are grateful for and write or draw something for the wall. After a couple of weeks your wall will be full of visual reminders of your blessings.
