St John’s Kids – 21 June 2020

SUNDAY 21 JUNE

Today’s service:

Access our streamed services here.

2 Corinthians 7:2-16 shows that experiencing sadness over areas of our lives can be good, as it was for the early believers in Corinth, if it leads us to turn away from our wrong behaviour and ask God for forgiveness.

Join in our kid’s song today, Before I Go, I Stop – a celebration of obedience, prayer and being alive in Christ.

To keep hands busy while listening to Tim’s talk, today’s activity sheets tie in with our bible passage and with the story of Zacchaeus – a man who turned away from his wrong behaviour and towards obedience to God. You can learn more about his story in today’s Family Devotion video, thanks to the Veerhuis family and some Lego!

Family Devotion Time:

Forgiveness is a gift from God and repentance is how we receive that gift. Repenting is more than just saying sorry. It is about a change of direction – changing our actions to please God.

Although we may feel sad for some of the wrong things we have done, repenting brings us closer to God and his love and joy.

Watch the Veerhuis family tell the story of Zacchaeus …

Read Luke 19:1-10

Zacchaeus was despised. Not only did he collect taxes from his Jewish community for the Roman Empire, but he cheated them along the way, pocketing extra money for himself! But Jesus came to save everyone, and Zacchaeus was so moved by his love that he felt bad for his actions and wanted to make things right. He did not just apologise; he changed his ways.

We all have our weaknesses.

  • When was the last time a mistake motivated you to change you behaviour?
  • What did you learn from that experience?
  • Is there anything you need to repent of today?

Pray together …

  • Thank God for his love and forgiveness
  • Say sorry for your wrong behaviour
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to help guide you to change and not repeat mistakes
